You need more a more dynamic mix for your background elements. They feel almost mono. Keep them wide and add some good panning elements. Your drum mixing is quite odd. The waveform should not has such sharp peaks and dips on your song. All the other elements should fill in those spaces in-between drums in the mix. I think your drums should be turned down and then you boost the whole of the song during mastering. The opening is just drums, which is quite boring. I would add more atmospheric elements. The drop consists of one bass, I would add some variation, or include breaks in it. It kind of just starts and keeps hammering non-stop without any time to breathe.

I think that everything that i can do have a logic concept, yeah... you're right with a lot of points, but is a random idea that i try to made... so yea i can fix a lot but that is the style that me wants so... the bass is cool
Thanks

that mix is so good..... 🥵🥵🥵

Isn't that a vital preset- in the intro? neat.

what microwave did you use to synthesize this

DavidVonBadGuy responds:

I used the Nostalgia Electrics Retro Aqua 800-Watt Microwave Oven.

Wow, this is a pretty interesting track.

The intro with the sidechain and sub bass compliment each other very nicely! The Foley effects and percussion create some cool rhythm in the track, but It does feel a little empty at parts. I think some more melodic stuff in the background would help. Also I feel some of the sidechain later on is a little too strong and cuts out the melody too much, maybe some shorter release on it would help out. Either that or its a little too quiet, im too tired to tell lol.

Regardless, the sound design is very original and interesting. The wubby basses have a very wet sound to them, kind of like its bubbling? (thats the best I can describe it), and it reminds me a lot of the basses used in A Feeling of Tread. I guess thats part of your style, and I like it.

Good work! 9/10 from me.

Zanzlanz responds:

This is a great review, thank you a lot!

Some producers have an ambience track in the background, or use pads or string sections to fill in the noise. I tend to dislike the sound of pads, but I could afford to investigate more into that. I just worry the more I put into noisy backdrops, the less control I have over the main effects.

I feel like a producer could end up tweaking sidechain forever - not sure at what point it just becomes a subjective opinion. Maybe that's inexperience talking, and if that's the case, your comment will likely sway me to use even less sidechain in the future. :) I've been trying to improve how I carve out the frequency spectrum, which reduces the need for ducking.

This track in particular is indeed kinda wet haha. It's funny you said "bubbling" - I had thought "bubblegum" was an appropriate sounding title, though I wasn't going to actually name it that.
Not sure what my style is still; I just enjoying trying out new things! There are actually 3 years separating the production of Mirror Road and A Feeling of Tread, so I'm happy you find similarities in their sound - hopefully that helped tie them together in the EP.

Thanks again! :D

Dang, I never realized some of my favorite tracks from the stick-min games came from you! The screechy bass in the drop is so crisp, feels so nice on the ears for something so scratchy feeling. The changes in the stereo, all the other sound design, and it all together, makes this one badass track! Cool to see how long ago it was made as well and comparing it to your newer stuff.

Zanzlanz responds:

This is such a nice message xD Thank you for the intelligent and kind review (it's always refreshing to hear from fellow producers).

I agree that it hits both harsh and pleasant in a way that I normally have a hard time replicating intentionally haha

I'm surprised and happy that this track holds up even today, having primarily made it in 2014. Not much that I made around those times were as clean and solid as this turned out. I guess I scratch it up to luck for the most part, but I'm proud of it anyway :D

When I heard this in completing the mission, I had to find the original track. Ended up listening to the whole soundtrack to find it. lol. Only issue is that the mixing can be a little messy in some spots. Great track!

Zanzlanz responds:

Hey thanks for seeking it out! Each ending has a list of the music used in that particular path - that should make it a lot easier to find the music you're looking for :)

I do know what you mean about the mixing (it was one of the things I improved last minute as well). I think the some elements have the wrong stereo image, but in general I'm mega happy with how it all turned out.

Thanks again! I'm listening through your stuff while I work btw - amazing work!

this is too much bASS for one man to handle

Could use a little more, well, interesting-ness.
Just a little boring and repetitive in a lot of parts.
Love the 8-bit stuff, adds some nice difference in the sounds.
Overall, the sound design is pretty good, and the mixing is fantastic.
Nice Work!
I rate 8/10!

For the love of god please MIX this BETTER. Sooooo much clipping.... Also quite boring for something 4 minutes. I recommend working on your mixing skills... a lot. Also, try to add some more melodic content I guess?

BLGmusic responds:

Sry pbm with the mp3 convertion... that's better now

I suck at making music but I try anyway. Yup.
